I think that may be some of it, but before the last 15 years, everything was recorded analog. Today, most music is produced digitally, which takes something away. Music that was recorded on analog tape, mastered on analog tape, then pressed on to analog vinyl would sound great.

I would agree with that, except that I’m not sure that today’s recordings are made for the iPod. Todays recordings are mainly targeted to the iPod and the sound quality is usually bad. Even with the Vinyl which is by far the best format for high quality audio you can not improve the quality of the source. It is really unfortunate for sound quality lovers.

The best sound / high fidelity recordings of all time were produced in the 70s and 80s. As a vinyl lover I know there's a big difference in the sound depending the turntable/cartridge you will use. because of many factorThese sony was an low level (so it will sound worst than a cd)Reasons
1- like you know, vinyle get all the vibration around: to have the best quality you should get a good isolate turntable2- there was a conical needle on that turntable, so you miss the alf of the qualityThe vinyle is still use as a master in some studio but they have a really good turntableThe Cd offer a «quality» that can be considered enough for occasionate listener of the fake audiophile. If you wanna try to see the potential of a vinyl
you might use at least a project debut III with the AT-95 as cartridge because the pre-fitted sucks
or a rega p1 (probably better)I would also advice you to try a better one if you really one to see the wonderful capacity of a vinylrega p3 with at-440; Dl-110 or
rega p5/7 whit DL-103R; sumiko blue point special
(I'm trying to make a money good-match: associate a cartrige proportionaly prices with the turntable)
Oh, yes!: add a goo pre-amp; project phono box or TCC TC-750 Phono Preamp (on ebay)after, tell me if you still prefer the sound of cd

There’s a big problem<br

He said that he used the picture disc and the sound was very close to the CD, but not better. I would like to know what the outcome would have been had he used regular black vinyl. Also, if regular vinyl sounds better than a CD, what about 180 - 200 gram virgin vinyl? I have Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother on 200 gram High Definition Vinyl recorded from the original masters at half speed, and I know that there is no CD out there that can compare. Even when using an inexpensive record player.

One comment though, picture disc vinyl is not a representative sample of the sound of vinyl. Black vinyl will always sound the best because the compound hasn't been diluted followed by color vinyl then last on the quality scale would be picture disc. All that said analog recording is VERY important too like you'd mentioned but I think trying the test with a standard black modern LP might show a more glaring difference in quality. ...that's my opinion any way. Thanks again for yours.

This was a good read, thanks. One comment though, picture disc vinyl is not a representative sample of the sound of vinyl.
